Leave of Absence, Continuous Enrollment, Dismissal, or Withdrawal from the College

Leave of Absence

 

At times, a student may need to take a leave of absence due to personal, professional, or academic reasons. A student planning to take a leave of absence should meet with an Academic Advisor or a representative from their program of study. 

 

If, after discussion, the final decision is to take a leave of absence, the student may complete a Leave of Absence Form located on my.laboure.edu. This form must be approved by either the Academic Advisor or the division representative before submitting it to the Office of the Registrar. A leave of absence can be taken in any semester that the student is not attending classes, but for not more than one academic year from the last semester attended. 

 

Continuous Enrollment

 

Students taking a leave of absence may elect to take the Continuous Enrollment (CEN) option, which allows the student to remain continuously enrolled for the purposes of the National Student Clearinghouse which reports non-enrollment to the Department of Education. Remaining continuously enrolled will not trigger the 6-month grace period for student loans. 

 

A student may elect to take Continuous Enrollment for one semester. Additional semesters of CEN may be requested but must be approved by the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, or designee. 

 

The enrollment fee for CEN is published in the annual tuition and fees listing. The Continuous Enrollment fee is waived for students taking a leave of absence due to military active duty and medical reasons or for students who must take a gap semester to begin their professional courses due to scheduling of the College. 

 

Voluntary Withdrawal from the College

 

A student planning to voluntarily withdraw from the College should meet with their Academic Advisor or a representative from their program of study. If, after discussion, the final decision is to separate from the College, the student may complete a Voluntary Withdrawal Form located on my.laboure.edu. This form must be approved by either the Academic Advisor or division representative before submitting it to the Office of the Registrar. 

 

If the student received financial aid while enrolled at the College, Exit Counseling must be completed online at studentloans.gov or by making an appointment with the Financial Aid Office at financialaid@laboure.edu

 

Program Dismissal: Division of Nursing

 

A student will be dismissed from the AS nursing program if they are unsuccessful in any professional nursing course. The attempt is unsuccessful if the course grade is withdrawal while failing (WF) or below 77% (C+) in the theory component of a professional course and a less than Satisfactory rating in clinical, simulation, or laboratory skills (if applicable). 

  • Students who are dismissed due to an unsuccessful attempt at a professional course have a right to appeal. Please follow the policy listed in the catalog for appeal. 
  • Dismissed students who wish to reapply must follow the reapplication and readmission policy. 
  • Dismissed students who are accepted for readmission into the ASN program must meet with an Academic Advisor and receive an academic plan for success.

Program Dismissal: Division of Arts and Health Sciences

 

A student will be dismissed from the respiratory care or radiation therapy programs if the student is unsuccessful (less than 77% or withdraw while failing) in one professional course. If a student is unsuccessful (less than 77% or withdraw while failing) in two science courses, then the student submits an application to repeat the course for a third attempt and is reviewed by the Academic Progression Review Committee. If the APRC denies the request, the student is then dismissed. 

 

 

Administrative Withdrawal from the College due to Non-Attendance

 

Any student who does not attend courses for one semester will be administratively withdrawn from the College due to non-attendance. 

 

Students will not be withdrawn if: 

  • enrolled in a future semester
  • assigned to a future cohort for professional courses
  • on a leave of absence
  • the Dean or Program Chair has granted them permission to remain a continuing student

Students administratively withdrawn due to non-attendance who wish to return to the College, may do so within one semester of the withdrawal date by requesting Reinstatement through the Office of the Registrar. After one semester of the withdrawal date, students must reapply for admission through the Admissions Office. 

 

Reinstatement

 

Students in good standing that have voluntarily or have been administratively withdrawn from the College for any reason may seek reinstatement within one semester (15 weeks) of the withdrawal date by requesting Reinstatement. The Reinstatement Request Form is located on my.laboure.edu. 

 

The Division Dean or Program Chair must approve the reinstatement. The student must be financially cleared through the Student Accounts Office and have academic and student conduct clearance. 

 

Upon reinstatement, the student will be required to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Student Success Center prior to course registration. Reinstated students will be required to attend at least one course within a semester of reinstatement or be administratively withdrawn from the College due to non-attendance. 

 

Students may apply for Reinstatement only once. If subsequently withdrawn, the student will be required to apply for readmission through the Admissions Office.
