Transfer Credits
Labouré College of Healthcare awards transfer credits for eligible courses completed with a minimum grade earned at regionally and programmatically accredited institutions. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation provides information about the organizations responsible for these two forms of accreditation. Transfer credits allow students to avoid repeating coursework and potentially graduate sooner.
Courses considered for transfer credit must be equivalent to those offered at the College in terms of nature, content, level, and number of credits earned.
Official transcripts from all institutions should be sent directly to the Labouré College of Healthcare Office of Admissions at the time of application.
- The minimum course grade acceptable for transfer credit is C, or 2.000 on a 4.000 scale, except for specified natural and biological science courses for respiratory care and nursing programs, which require a minimum grade of C+: Anatomy & Physiology I; Anatomy & Physiology II; Microbiology; Human Biology.
- Natural and biological science courses for respiratory care and nursing programs expire after five years unless the student holds a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license. The applicability of these courses in other programs is determined at the discretion of the academic program.
- Courses completed on a pass/fail scale are eligible for transfer if the college/university policy articulates the minimum grade to earn a “pass” is equivalent to a C, or 2.000 on a 4.000 scale. (Exceptions: natural and biological science courses for nursing programs graded on a pass/fail scale are not transferrable.)
Academic credits earned at institutions outside the United States are considered for transferability on a case-by-case basis. Students must submit an official English evaluation completed by an approved credential evaluator. Requested course descriptions and/or syllabi also need to be translated into English and submitted to the Labouré College of Healthcare Office of Admissions.
Students may also earn credit through the Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) program which are considered transfer credits and, thus, do not count toward the calculation of the grade point average or the College's residency requirement.
Incoming Student Transfer Credit
An official transfer credit evaluation will be completed after an incoming student's enrollment deposit has been received. If a student is eligible for VA benefits, they should email
Registrar@laboure.edu to discuss transfer credit before submitting an enrollment deposit.
Prior to paying the enrollment deposit, an unofficial transfer credit evaluation can be requested by contacting the Admissions Office at admissions@laboure.edu.
A student may request an additional transfer credit evaluation for courses taken prior to beginning their program at Labouré College of Healthcare if they did not receive transfer credit for a course during their official evaluation by the Registrar. The Request for Additional Transfer Credit is available online at my.laboure.edu and must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar at transfercredit@laboure.edu along with a course description or syllabus.
Continuing Student Transfer Credit
A continuing degree student may apply for up to eight (8) additional transfer credits from regionally accredited colleges or universities or Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) after they begin their program at Labouré College of Healthcare. The student must submit the Continuing Student Transfer Credit Request Form to the Registrar prior to taking courses or seeking credit from outside of Labouré College of Healthcare. In all cases, the student must satisfy the College's residency requirement.
Once the course taken at an outside college or university is complete, an official transcript including final course grade must be sent to the Office of the Registrar at transfercredit@laboure.edu. If the student is seeking CPL credit by examination, official test scores must be sent to the Office of the Registrar. The student's program requirement will remain incomplete until the transfer credit is completed and posted to the student's official record. If the course being taken for transfer credit is a prerequisite for a Labouré College of Healthcare course, the transcript must be received and verified before a student enrolls in the requisite or co-requisite course.
Residency Requirement
To be awarded a degree, all students must complete a minimum of 30 credits at Labouré College of Healthcare regardless of the number of transfer credits awarded.
